What's with the dark nail polish

I'm noticing women on TV (Kelly Ripa, plus a CNN anchor) wearing very dark -- it looks black -- fingernail polish. They also have their nails trimmed short, which I've always thought looked better with light polish. Is this the new trend? It's going to take some getting used to.

I like the very dark colors-  deep red and deep purple on my toes particularly for holiday functions.  It also looks elegant with a black dress.  I haven't tried it on my hands...yet.  I think I'll give it a try.  Maybe around Halloween?  I'll let you know what I think.

I like dark colors on toes, but I think they make fingernails look stubby. Maybe I'll get used to it.

I love wearing my nails this way. Especially if there is something that makes it look more special such as a duochrome or some shimmer. I normally use really dark purples or navy.

I have nails that are relatively short...not past my fingertips and I love the dark colors. Currently I have deep red, black, navy blue and a deep, dark green.  With a good polish and a good polish job, they look great, but if you're sloppy...forget it....dark colors are not forgiving :-)

You should do something nice for someone every single day...even it if it is simply to leave them alone.

You're SO right!  I wish I could afford to have them professionally painted but am stuck doing it myself.  I wish I could find a REALLY GOOD top coat that would reduce chipping too.... because every tiny chip shows when their painted dark =/

I use a base coat by OPI or sometimes Sally Hansen and then finish with that aerosol drying spray (in the red can) and they stay good for a couple days...I"m usually ready for a change by then anyways.  On my toes it lasts for about a week and if for some reason I get a chip, I just polish one more coat on top and you can't tell :-)  There is something about the spray that really helps....maybe because it freeze dries? Anyways, I get the spray at Walgreens.

My sister is in high school and this trend is very popular with that age group. The "older" women who wear this don't look so hot. I see it as older women trying to look much younger. IMO.

I love it. I'm old enough to have gone through the Chanel Vamp craze in the mid-90s and I'm excited that it's back in style.
