I don't think your argument holds much water. It is either a baby or it is not. I don't think the babies conmom has shown would be upset to know that their first days of life were extremely difficult. In fact, when they sit on the couch being cuddled by their mothers and surrounded by family that loves them and places great value on their life, they would probably say it was worth it.

Do you know any dialysis patients? Do you realize many dialysis patients stop treatment because it is typically permanent, aggressive, and exhausting? Plus, quality of life is low. Some times, prolonging life [at all costs without consideration for the suffering being caused to the patient] is harder than letting go. Many times it has to do with the families wishes, not the patients. So, qualitity of life does not matter? A life time of constant painful medical intervention is preferred? Ask yourself, would you want a life of constant painful medical procedures only to die prematurely?

originally posted by BigBrother This thread is about a woman who supported abortion for years, UNTIL she actually watched a video of the killing of a baby. Have you ever watched an abortion? Those of you who support this "choice" (it kills me to call it that!) should click below: http://www.catholic.org/video/?v=13 http://www.silentscream.org/ BB, this video has been posted before. I have watched it. Have you ever seen a video or picture of a Harlequin baby or an anecepaphlic baby? Are you against abortion even in cases where there is no expected quality of life only suffering?

I would also like to see "quality of life" provided the same consideration as the mother's "life jeopardy" . If there were substantial evidence that birth and expectation of short term life would be painful (such as to be inhumane), then the "procedure" should be an option.

I nominate Madre for the Death Panels...she is really good at determining who should live and who should die!

You raise a good point here and one I have struggled with (not personally making that decision). To what extent does the mother have to protect the life of the unborn and how do you categorize induced miscarrage? I believe it is a slippery slope when it comes to abortion 'by her own hands'. If we say that she can not take herbs/tinctures to induce miscarrage, where does it end? Too much cinnamon in the diet has been known to cause miscarrage, could she then be charged with a crime? What if her diet is unhealthy and she can not support the babies needs? Who determines what is healthy. I will continue to think on this one for a while.

MJ, you did not answer the question: Ask yourself, would you want a life of constant painful medical procedures only to die prematurely?

I was actually blessed enough to rock a beautiful baby girl in her last minutes, born with anencephaly what an angel she was and is....Who are we to decide? This little one's mommy took comfort in holding and seeing her daughter the whole family did, no matter how short the time was. Abortion is murder no matter what, it is murder...Yes this angel died,in her mothers arms, naturally, not by the hand of a killer being ripped from limb to limb and thrown into a trash bag...

So should everyone on dialysis be left to die? How about diabetics, all those painful needle sticks, blood test, the transplant surgeries, which don't always work, constant medications...How about cancer patients? The poor children suffering from cancer, should their parents just let them go? Or should they risk it all to give them a shot, even if the outcome my not be positive,See the point?

Conservativemom, it is the woman who is pregant who decides. Some would carry a severely deformed fetus to term, others would not knowing what was to come. It is not the general consensus right to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her uterus, period. Row v. Wade has a purpose and if abortion was murder the prisons would be bursting at the seams.
Your idea of life is as long as there is breathe, it constitutes life, the potential suffering is irrelevant.

Conservativemom, you are MISSING the point. I did not say "NO DON'T LET THEM HAVE DIALYSIS." Please read it, again. As a medical professional, you must know how taxing dialysis is. Some patients stop treatments, of their own volition. Again, for some quality of life matters. For others life, no matter the circumstances or suffering involved, matters.
