My DS is now a month into public school for the first time (K) and I am already considering a change for next year. I am doing some serious research into homeschooling and the virtual school option Brevard now offers. Just curious what other Mom's are doing. We are lucky to have choices

As a college English professor, I see the poor quality of students produced by our public schools. I have opted to place my two children in an A rated charter school with a challenging curriculum. My 4th grader is doing prealgebra. All students from 3rd grade up are required to participate in the science fair. They have homework every night. They have to do research and write essays. I could go on. I am sure that they are receiving an excellent education.

Wow, interesting to see how many moms are choosing alternatives to the public school system!!

My daughter is in public school and they are also required to participate in science fair from 3rd grade on. I wouldn't change schools for anything in the world! We have one of the best schools out there.

Both of my children are in public school and they are doing the same things as Roberta54. Same projects, homework, essays etc.
It depends on the school and the actual teacher.
My children go to a great school, they both score in the 98th or 99th percentile on the NRT.

Virtual schooling is a great alternative to homeschooling. It is free, there is little interference but there is still a support system there when you need it. The one drawback is that you must have been a public school child previously so they really didn't include an option of incorporating previous homeschoolers. It is sad that those parents who have already chosen to take responsibility for their children's education have been kept away from this very viable option. FLVS and FLVA are wonderful!

I am interested in the Virtual Schooling myself. It is a more relaxed program for the child and there are fewer distractions...plus less sickness and crime. I have 2 boys in Riviera. Not to pleased with them.

Well I now a homeschool and I also was interested in the FLVS but honestly I was not willing to have him stay in public school for a year to be eligible. Hopefully someday this rule changes!
